Unspirational Mail

Barely a day goes by when my inbox is not flooded by mails from enterprising Nigerian businessmen with creative new ways of separating me and my money, and internet pharmacies offering me wondrous methods of bending, mending, and extending various anatomical features on my body. Well, the other day, out of the blue, I got an email from a person directing me to www.haroldholt.net, and expounding at length on his geopolitical theories regarding the disappearance and probable death of one of Australia's short-lived Prime Ministers.

I almost cried, I tell you. Amidst all the scamsters, shysters, hucks, quacks, snake-oil salesmen, liars, pricks, dicks, cons, crims, and schmucks out there, it's refreshing to know that there are still a lot of plain old garden-variety nutters willing to share their idiocy with the world at large. It really restores one's faith in humanity.

Yes, yes, yes, but did Harold Holt leave behind $30 billion in ill-gotten cash that is in urgent need of laundering to get it out of the country?

He was, after all, the original bottom of the harbour scheme.

Gaaaah! All that for a 25-year old Max Gillies joke. I guess people with no wit of their own seem to make it a habit to borrow wit from others.

Someday, Harold will emerge from the oceans, glittering and young again, and lead Australia to a new golden age of peace, love, and prosperity for all ...

That's where the sixties went wrong! But the dream did not die, it was merely delayed...

Holidaying families at Portsea will be amazed to see him surfacing in a gold lamé wetsuit, flanked by two loyal members of the Red Detachment of Women, singing in a rich baritone, "When the moon is in the Seventh House, and Jupiter aligns with Mars, then peace will guide the planets, and love will steer the stars..."

He has speared two fat, glittering fishes. He gestures to a wide-eyed child to nip down to the IGA and bring him five loaves. What follows is destiny.
