You learn a new something every day

"The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction" is the Benjamin essay that everybody knows a little bit about. - Clive James, Cultural Amnesia
And now I know a little bit about it, too...

I learned that Bart Simpson and nudity ought not be mixed.

Mine lacks snob value but is a lesson for everyone. I think. Maybe.

I read about that. There's at least one episode in which he appears nude, so is it that radical?

I'm going to see the movie next weekend.

The Simpsons don't normally do full frontal nudity. More funny than radical.

'Ought not to be mixed' and 'ought not to be missed' are very similar phrases, you know.

They can be a bit prudish about nudity, The Simpsons. One thinks of the episode where they go to see Michaelangelo's David and Marge's hair continuously obscures the groin area.

Fnniest nude scene in literature is quite possibly in Roald Dahl's 'The Twits'.

No, that's a big call...

Once again, your knowledge of children's literature leaves me lost - I haven't read The Twits in decades (about two - and, yes, I now feel very old).

I was kinda joking with the Bart Simpson/nudity thing - it's done pretty well. Quite funny.

It's awesome. Dahl starts off with a completely pointless rant about bearded men - 'What a lot of men with beards there are about nowadays!'. Then he goes on to describe two of the most absolutely fowl people you have ever encountered.

My favourite bit is possibly where Mr Twit, spurred to creativity in his fury at Mrs Twit, shouts out:

'Grumpers and grojags, woman!'

The bit with the nudity is a joke that Dahl sets up in the previous chapter when he describes how the Twits catch birds for their bird pie (put glue on the tree branches). In this case, they don't catch birds, just a bunch of little boys by the seat of their pants...

I love Little Boy Pie, although I always have to be careful not to get a slingshot caught in my throat.

Once you've tasted bird pie made from freshly-glued birds, you won't want it any other way.

Right, well, I'll keep that in mind.

When I was a boy-child, about 55 yrs. ago, "Little Boy Pie" meant peanut butter and bacon sandwiches. I wonder if this was only withiin my family or if there is a background to that.
